Summoners, rejoice! Riot has officially announced that the upcoming MSI 2019 Mid-Season Invitational will be held in Vietnam and Taiwan throughout the month of May. Vietnam’s cities of Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi will host the Play-In and Group Stages respectively; while Taiwan’s capital, Taipei, will host the Semifinals and the Grand Finals.
MSI 2019 Mid-Season Invitational Schedule:
Play-In Stage (Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam): May 1st – 7th
Group Stage (Hanoi, Vietnam): May 10th – 14th
Semi-finals/Finals (Taipei, Taiwan): May 17th – May 18th
The MSI 2019 Mid-Season Invitational 2019 is considered one of the biggest international tournaments in League of Legends. Usually held between the Spring and Summer of the year, it’s a much-awaited tournament where world rankings for the game’s best teams are updated, especially in the LCS, LCK, LEC, and LPL. Only the League of Legends World Championship is considered as a greater prize over the MSI 2019 Invitational.
It is reported that the tournament will star with a prize pool of 1,000,000 USD. The prize pool will continue to grow over time as more event skins, passes, and other items that come with the MSI 2019 Invitational is purchased by League of Legends players.
In other news, it can be recalled that Riot stated that it would be reducing its spending on esports events for League of Legends. It may perhaps be safe to assume that the starting Prize Pool (which is the same as 2018’s) was left unchanged to avoid community backlash.
The MSI 2019 Invitational was previously held in the Western hemisphere. The tournament’s move towards the East serves both as a cost-saving measure and a way to recognize League of Legend’s massive Asian player base.
